heeeee

watching cheesy movie with Pavarotti and this guy turns up in it and gets to sing with Luciano. and there's a clip on Youtube! yippy! skip to about four minutes....

I've also decided Jack Black should play Pavarotti, if they ever make a movie about him.

even my car is a recluse....

MK: you gonna put the trash out?

RTO: I always expect it to be out already.

MK: why?

RTO: didn't your car go anywhere today?

MK: no, it doesn't usually go anywhere on Mondays.

RTO:

MK:

RTO: well, maybe it should.

MK: maybe it likes you to be here.

cranky day

and I haven't even been up and around much. I suspect it's hanging over from last night. anyhoo, only thing on the calendar this week is work. therapist's in Israel and voice teacher is listening to auditions. BWAH HA HA HAhaaaaaaaa.

anyhoo, mom, I'm still talkin' myself down. (from what I saw yesterday they called and asked a lot of people to audition) told RTO I felt really good about the call backs last night, but I don't think the director had the same idea for the character. so who knows. on the plus side, I wasn't as annoyed by waiting as most of the others or as last time even though it was just as late. (probably a combination of low expectations and an iphone to surf the net helped.)

would you guys keep it down?

Labels:

so I gave up waiting....

and fired up the iphone last night. so far, it's fun. I'll probably knit a little cover for it tonight. anyhoo, the ability to read the intertubes from anywhere rawks. Carlos will have to share.

I think they've hit the big time....

I can has cheezburger is having a poker cats contest. the grand prize is a trip for 2 to Vegas.

speaking of contests.... we're debating what to do with the iphones. I had planned on selling one, but then RTO was all, "my brother said we should keep them because they rawk" and I said, "does your brother have any idea how much the service costs and how cheap I am?" granted I'm supposed to be getting funds to cover two years of service for both phones, but there's still the matter o' taxes on everything, which I guess I have till next year to worry about.

Labels:

oh duh!

I keep debating (still, I know) selling the action figure collection. It would just be such a hassle to take pictures of everything and list it on EBay and blah, blah, blah. but, also, most of it is still in a box. Then I saw the pictures with this article. why didn't I think of steps before now? cause I'm stupid. I may have some scraps of wood or something in the garage to make them with too.

memorieeeeees

so I went looking on youtube for the woman that sang Carmen when I was in the Tulsa Opera Chorus, but there's no clips of her singing Carmen. :( I did find this from Suor Angelica though

it's kinda funny because I had just read an article about her last night and she talked about how she handled this role to try to make it more sympathetic.

musical movie posting.....

so tonight's movie was One Night of Love with Grace Moore. according to her imdb bio she sang at the Met for several years, but like most movies I've watched so far they make some, uh, interesting song choices. like this (mostly I just snorted at the crazy costume)

so I decided to look up what she did at the Met because you don't see many sopranos sing Carmen nowadays. Anyhoo, the final numbers from Madame Butterfly made more sense (she sang Mimi and Tosca among other things at the Met and Michaela in Carmen)

Take that RTO!

RTO's been complaining cause I wouldn't let him do the taxes and part of the reason I gave was because I wasn't sure what year we'd get a 1099 for the iphones I won. so all the time, it's "where are your iphones? huh? huh? I don't think they're coming." well, look what showed up today!

ha! one for each kitteh!

spacey rambling...

MK: oh, so which astronaut was it that punched a guy that was demanding he tell the truth about not going to the moon?

RTO:

MK:

RTO: Cooper, no wait, he didn't go to the moon..... Aldrin.

MK: yeah, that's the one.

RTO: why do you ask?

MK: oh, just quizzing you.... cause I can

RTO:

MK: it came up today. but, he wasn't the Congressman was he? I was thinking it was the Congressman that punched somebody.

RTO: no, that was Glenn and he didn't go to the moon, he orbited the Earth.

MK: huh, those astronauts all look alike to me.

tonight's musical movie rambling....

last week Turner Classic Movies had a little Mario Lanza run and I recorded a couple of the movies and added what I could to the netflix queue. Anyhoo, so tonight I watched The Toast of New Orleans. it didn't have as many staged opera bits as the others I've watched so far, and the only one he did in this movie was particularly entertaining because of how they worked it into the plot. (you can find a brief description and translation here)

so after this there's a cute bit where he chases her around the theater and everyone is helping him keep track of her. she locks herself in her dressing room and he kicks open the door and she's all calm and just says, "Oh, did you want to talk to me about something?" THE END. anyway, I just loved the look of panic she has.

secret messages from my tv

was just flipping through the channels when I caught this....

and next up?

I'll be in my bunker....

my other thought for the day....

RTO's in Arkansas for the next couple days. It was easier to communicate with him when he was in Afghanistan.

he "called" tonight but we gave up after the second time his cell phone cut out. and even then the conversation was mostly, "huh? what? hello?"

at least in the 'stan he had somewhat reliable internet access.

Things that have made me laugh recently....

Jesus held hostage - clip of a news story. guess what the statue-napper's demands are.

Chicago voting Irregularities explained

and finally, I wouldn't be surprised if RTO and I have a similar conversation (language warning!) about a month from now. except I've never used a voting booth with curtains, we usually get a wobbly cardboard box thing. RTO's been all cranky about our primary being so "late" and his choices being limited thanks to morons in some other state. guess who he's said he'll vote for anyway.

I have reconciled....

with electric blankets.

been meaning to make a post about it, but back around New Year's when our heater died, RTO dug up the electric blanket he'd used in Afghanistan. I've had a deathly fear of electric blankets thanks to my grandmother. When we'd visit her and it was cold out she'd fire one up and as she was tucking us in say, "Now, I've got this electric blanket on so don't move around too much" so of course I had no idea what that meant except that if we moved around "too much" we'd probably burn the house down. so I'd much rather just be cold.

anyhoo, having used one quite a bit lately, I've overcome my fear. RTO is even smart and has it under the fitted sheet so it's really not going anywhere anyway. unless of course I decide to spend some time jumping on the bed, but there's a ceiling fan so I probably won't be doing that either.

there's a word for it....

in the comments for this post, Susan mentions that cats make "that face" so they can get a extra good whiff of something. and i vaguely remember seeing that somewhere, so I went looking online and found out it's called the Flehmen reaction (this was one of the few sites that had a picture of a kitty looking funny) seems they're pulling in air over the roof of their mouth and some special sniffer in there. anyhoo, maggie does it more than any cat I've ever seen. (I've only seen Carlos make that face once or twice)

Labels:

Ace said it was fun....

and I happened to be riding the stationary bike while watching it, which made it even more fun.. caught myself pedaling faster as it went along. I should probably find more like this and watch them while i exercise.

he does this most nights, just conks out between me and RTO

or if we're feeling really nice....

he can sleep on us.

Labels:

"that face!"

sometimes the cats sniff something and when they look up they make this face. RTO teases me about how amused I am by it. so now I'm determined to get a good picture of it. This is my first attempt. it's kinda tricky cause I have to notice they're sniffing something and then grab the camera and hope it's ready to go by the time they look up because it only lasts a few seconds and they usually only do it once and move on to other things.
