RTO's strange ears...

RTO: what is this that's playing in your car?

MK: uh

RTO: cause it sounds like music from Babylon 5

MK: well, it's not.

RTO:

MK: It's the Tenchi Muyo! In Love movie soundtrack.

RTO was driving so I started reading the liner notes and sure enough it's one Christopher Franke that wrote the music for both. (among other things)

We've only got a couple episodes of season 2 of Babylon 5 left and I can't say that the music has left an impression on me. so I find it entertaining that RTO picked that up.

in other fun happenings, we figured out how to connect my laptop to the t.v. and watched a movie through Netflix. whee!

watching for ???

Roxie usually posts herself by the door while I work on records. I'm not sure why. The cats still come in.

Then I try to get a close-up and she flops over. goofy dog.

so I keep asking myself....

How much crackling can I tolerate?

I moved the record recording setup into the front bedroom (as opposed to the "scary bedroom") last week and I've started cleaning up tracks and transferring them into i-tunes. I don't need or particularly want perfection, that's part of what I like about records in the first place. buuuuut, in some instances it would be nice to hear more of the music than the extraneous noises.

anyhoo, the old laptop is as cranky as ever, so, many times I'm applying the clean-up tool, saving the song as a new file, closing it, re-opening it and listening for anything strange. Otherwise the processor maxes out. I will not play and edit at the same time!

and for some reason, before I started this I felt compelled to finally organize the action figure shelves. here's one.

I broke down and bought some little plastic adjustable shelf thingers at the container store. I may get one more because it might make it possible to free up a shelf.

oh, also, we have this lovely television if anyone would like it...

I, um, don't remember the measurement on it, 27 or 32 inch, I think.

okay, back to the salt mines.

Nightly shows!

some nights you can tell they get really frustrated because they'll actually paw on the glass, but most nights it's enough to just watch the lizards. this lizard is a regular, I think, how many of them lose their tails? I named him Stumpy cause I'm original like that.

it only took me a month

I bought the funfetti mix back in May because I got my "J" months confused, so the 4th finally rolled around and I didn't make cupcakes because the Wednesday before was the Sales VP's birthday and they had cake and brownies and cookies and rice crispie treats and nobody would want cupcakes the next day. and then I was "sick" last week. so finally, Tuesday I baked them and I wish I'd saved the frosting container, because that frosting was unbelievably tasty. some of my favorite cupcakes so far, even though they weren't chocolate.

Carlos continues family tradition....

RTO's nephews were here for a few hours tonight and Carlos spent the entire time under the bed just like Bosco used to do whenever our younger cousins visited. cause boys are loud and scary.

Maggie was pretty cool with them, didn't run away and she didn't seem to mind being petted or having the Mach 5 run over her back.

They also wore Roxie out running laps around the house.

Anyhoo, they have a cat (Mr. Kitty), but he's not an indoor cat so they aren't familiar with the litter box. We were heading out to the garage and Max asked what that thing was in the laundry room. "It's the cat's bathroom" didn't go into details as that seemed to be enough info to satisfy him. still, that description amuses me.

heard these two back to back last night:

not sure what it's trying to tell me.

teh stupid

so I finally got around to updating the iphone last night. Hadn't really paid attention to what that would entail, but noticed the new "apps" icon. There is some goofy stuff out there. RTO made me download the phone saber. and after reading this I may have to get more cowbell! I don't usually even listen to music on the phone since I always have my regular ipod with all my music on it.

things could get interesting....

I got a letter a few weeks ago that one of my credit cards was being canceled. They claimed it was for delinquencies with another account and I thought, "sure, whatevs, why not just admit it's because I rarely use this account?" went ahead and ordered my credit report and it showed up today and apparently I changed my name and moved to California and became a deadbeat sometime last year.

I'm thinking it's a clerical error because I reviewed my credit report back in March. (ADP thought perhaps they had lost some of my info in the mail and told me to put a fraud alert on my credit info) and there wasn't anything about the name change or the collections last year on my report at that time.

but they insist on doing everything by snail mail, so it will be a while before it gets resolved. blech.

I don't take enough pictures of her. course part of that is because she's always moving around. anyhoo, RTO had to get up at 5 this morning to work and then came home around noon and conked out and Roxie stayed under the bed most of that time. I would have taken pictures then, but RTO would get cranky about the flash. him being asleep and all. so here's some old pictures of Roxie.

um...

spotted this headline at Hot Air.

Sun (UK)

Wha???

and checking it out it's a Barbie version of the DC character Black Canary.

yeah, I'm not sure how you make that look not like a street walker. because of the fishnets. But that costume isn't really any more revealing than Wonder Woman's or any number of other superheroes. oh well.

and in other ramblings....

I'm beat.

we went up to OKC this weekend to see my family (and RTO had drill). Met Kris and her family for lunch on Friday. It was tasty and fun. Fried pies. mmmmmm. (She has a picture here and yes, I was bad and cut my hair Wednesday and was thinking it looked maybe okay, but seeing that picture, maybe not. *sigh* but people, it's been reaching 100 degrees for days and i just couldn't take it anymore. anyhoo, I feel better knowing I made it look bad than that I paid someone to make it look bad.)

speaking of heat, my cousin had his wedding reception outside Saturday afternoon. It was surprisingly comfortable. There were lots o' trees. just kinda strange being there without RTO. I was feeling like the odd man out like when he was deployed. "don't mind me, I'm just not all here"

visited my grandparents for lunch on Sunday. looked at old yearbooks because dad mentioned he'd seen where his second grade teacher had died recently. (I don't remember most of my teachers. oh well.) and then mom and dad went to Tulsa and I conked out after a while waiting for RTO to be done with drill and we got to bring some other soldier to Dallas with us because he needed a ride

wasn't planning on doing much today or tomorrow. wound up moving the recording stuff into the front bedroom. (we has a kitchen table now!) and rearranging a shelf of action figures. and vacuuming the living room and working out and I think I injured my right quadricep. it's not happy so really, nothing tomorrow.

not a great picture....

but that wasn't the reason I took it...

This is one of those "I didn't want to get up and see what the cats were doing, but they were making noise in the other room and it was too dark to see them and the camera was handy and it has this flashy thing on it" things.

nothing to see here

still not sure exactly what they were up to, but taking pictures got them to settle down. for some reason I'm very amused by pointing the camera at things I can't see to see so that I can see them.

midweek blah

I keep thinking I'll post more, and then I don't. I've been trying to find a good balance between work and computer time and non-computer time at home. been doing some needlework while watching lots o' TV.

watched the Met La Fille du Regiment the other day and it was highly entertaining. Unfortunately there was some kind of glitch on Sunday so I didn't get La Boheme recorded. (The dvr said it did but then you'd hit play and it was like it was an invisible version with no sound so the tv just kept showing whatever it was you were watching at the time)

also have watched most of the George Sanders things. (found out the 3rd was his birthday and that's why TCM ran so many movies) he makes a really hammy villain for the most part, it's all probably part of some Oscar curse, really.

heh, here. between him and Stanwyck it's a wonder there's anything not mangled with teethmarks at the end of this clip.

Mustache Feeling

er, saw this at Ace of Spades HQ:

John Oates wants people to know that he is nothing like what he was when he had a mustache. The Hall & Oates principal is firm about the distinction, because if things go as planned, his mustachioed image could appear on TV in cartoon form kicking ass, rocking out and wearing tight pink pants.

I don't think it can possibly be as cool as this bit from The Tick:

and don't even get me started about Regis.
