against my better judgement

I started reading Far From the Tree.  not great show reading, it's going to take me a while. but I think i've got everything memorized now so it will be a little quicker maybe. other than that it took me a week to read some trash, so that should give you an idea of how things have slowed down.

rehearsals started

my reading has tanked. currently reading The Girl Who kicked the Hornet's Nest. and it's kinda slow picking up. oh well. today is cloudy and blah, so I'm probably gonna take a nap, even though I've only been up a few hours. meh.

just got cast

will try not to let my reading get too borked.  currently reading Island Beneath the Sea.  then trash, then I'll have to make a decision about reading Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the other two books all at once, or saving the other two for later.

I blame my therapist....

she told me one time today and then I get there and she's all, oh it's this other time, so I had some time to kill, so of course I went to Half Price Books.  Was really thinking I wouldn't make a trip for the next couple weeks.  actually, need to quit for a while. RTO's telling me I have a problem, which I probably do. just filled in some series, one of them being Stieg Larson's Millennium Trilogy.  The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is next in the reading pile.  That's after Daughter of Fortune which I'm reading now and whatever is next on the kindle plus trash.

10 books so far this year, not counting trash.

can I really call it trash

if I learned a bit of history from it? have read Jennifer Blake's Three Graces series recently, it's set in the court of Henry VII, so I knew a little bit about Richard III when his body was found this week. very little, but who remembers that stuff from school? anyhoo, have since read The Lacuna again learning a bit of history and the difference between Thomas Wolfe and Tom Wolfe. Authors should be like actors and not aloud to have the same names.

it's the weekend....

read Pictures of You this week. was wondering why it wasn't a romance and then I got to the ambiguous ending.  Have already read the trash that comes after and feel like reading MOAR!!  anyhoo, instead, I got some magazines to read.  I'm finding that I don't like to read two different books on the same day sometimes.  I need time to digest or savor what I've read. And because of the randomness of my reading it can get kind of jarring. Like when my ipod goes from rock to opera.

Quiet

read it yesterday. eh. it was okay. it covered a lot of familiar ground in a kinda chatty way, which might be better for extroverts trying to understand the "other".  anyhoo, on to trash.

oh funny story, I bought a really beat up copy of Atlas Shrugs today for a dollar.  get to the checkout and the guy goes "This shouldn't be in clearance." um, okay, but it was. he let me have it after all mumbling about it being really old and worn out.

sos

got to counting yesterday and it doesn't look like any of the secret office stash will be moved on to the night stand this year. there's currently 35 books on the night stand. and if I read at the same rate as last year that might just get them all read, but probably not as long as the kindle is in the rotation. course it's only January so who knows.

five books so far...

I guess that's not too bad for three weeks.  and not including trash. which I'll be starting today, since I finished The Joy of Hate (signed copy RTO gave me for Christmas). still, not enough books to bring anything out of the secret office stash.

time for trash...

read 11/22/63 over the last few days.  now I need RTO to read it and let me know what's historically accurate and what's completely made up. so now it's time for kindle trash. w007!

order

decided I needed to figure out what to read next in perpetuity, so it goes reading pile, trash pile, kindle thing I'll admit to reading and then kindle trash.  of course any periodicals will jump the line, but there it is.  sooooo, I just finished Bel Canto last night. kinda interesting, the kind of thing RTO hates, basically a bunch of hostages develop stockholme syndrome and I suppose the reader is supposed to as well, but you kinda knew it was going to end badly so I wasn't so torn up about it.

on to the trash pile!

Happy New Year!

Started The Glass Castle on the plane home on the 1st and finished it today.  got a Classical Singer to read before the next book, which will be Dewey's Nine Lives.

Half Price Books is giving away a $100 gift certificate to someone that resolves to read more.  I was lazy and just clicked 52 books. which I guess, technically, isn't more. oh well.

The kindle has 109 things in the "read 2012" folder, some of those overlap what's listed here (like the Twilight thing) and I think a few things may be from 2011 actually.  so I probably have read close to 100 books this year including trash.  Once the new year starts I should be back to hitting the nightstand pile and eventually, the secret office stash. It's nice to be back to reading books and not getting swamped by magazines and blogs.

Happy New Year!

mostly reading Christmas trash right now.

but have added Quiet to the reading pile. Amazon had it for 3.99 the other day, couldn't pass it up.  anyhoo, will probably continue reading trash for a while, so my list of what I'll admit to reading this year is probably finished... we'll see.

what next?

finished About a Boy last night, like Hornby's writing style even if the story was kind of odd.  just haven't decided yet if I'm going to read some Thanksgiving trash or keep plowing through the "serious" pile. leaning towards plowing....

crunch week

show opens Friday, and I've been scrambling to finish a scarf, so it took me all week, but I finished Portrait in Sepia and a reader's digest.started About a Boy, it should be a quick read, but we'll see.

I should start reviewing and putting together a list of what I've read this year soon.

I read Boys from Brazil last week and then some trash, next up is more Ira Levin with Sliver. slowly making a dent in the nightstand pile, except now I have the secret stash in the office. at least it's good weather for curling up and reading. and Spencer the new kitty is pretty snuggly.
