the saddest lemon...

RTO planted a Meyer lemon tree in the back yard a couple years ago. but later he decided to put it in a pot and bring it indoors during the winter. Last December it bloomed and started growing a few lemons. All but one had dropped off when he decided it would probably stay warm enough for it to be back outside for a while. Anyhoo, I have a few pictures...

I think this is from February

Then tragedy struck. It fell off when RTO moved the pot outside.

but of course we had to dissect it.

The tree has been moved in and out another time since then and it started blooming again. which, I don't know if it's supposed to do that, but it will be interesting to see if any lemons make it farther along next time.

garden surprise...

something white caught my eye along the back fence and I went to check it out and found this. Haven't ever seen these before, but I'm fairly certain it's a Paperwhite. Only the one stalk bloomed and it continued blooming for about a week after I cut it and brought it inside.

plant identified?

in comments to the last post, Susan thinks it may be Magnolia, so I did some more googling and stumbled onto Gardenia. (somewhere mentioned they're two popular plants in the South.)

I think because of this.

update: for some perspective...

here's where it's growing, yeah, I let the rose bush go wild this year. seems I only get around to trimming it every other year.

you'd think I've lived here long enough

that there wouldn't be anymore "surprise plants", but there are!

the large thorny bits are the rose bush, but the white flower and shiny green leaves are new. no idea what it is.

I think this is an Easter Lilly. just thought it was funny, because RTO's mom gives us one almost every year and usually they just die and are never seen again. This one's been knocked all over the backyard and neglected, but decided to grow anyway.

and then RTO moved it to the garden. we'll see if it makes it.

Dad test #1

What kind of tree is this? I say, "Pecan", RTO says, "nuh uh, but I don't know what it is"

I thought I had some better pics of the leaves. rar! they're on the other laptop.....

It's the one on the right, though I think those two are the same thing.

update from old laptop: close up of leaves.

Roxie let me know....

these are my dog walking shoes. I didn't know this until mid-February when I put them on to go trim the rose bushes. Roxie got really excited and ran back and forth between me and the front door. so now I know. I don't even remember making it a point to wear these shoes to walk the dog, so I'll never know how many times it took her to make the connection, but it's definitely made now.

and speaking of roses....

I took this a little while ago. word on the street is it will get close to freezing tonight (just checked weather.com, there's a chance of snow tomorrow!) so, these probably won't last long.
